Welcome Back Starcross!

Posted on

We were SO HAPPY to welcome back all the amazing children to school on Monday 8th March! What a lovely, fun day was had by all!  We extended our Reading for Pleasure focus from last week, to conclude in a whole school ‘Celebration of Reading’ day!

We hope you enjoy looking at some of the photographs. These show a range of children’s imaginative costumes based on their favourite book or book character. We managed to get a couple of photos of some of the staff too! You will also be able to see some of the activities that children participated in during the day. Later this week, we will send home some further ideas for non-screen activities for your incredible children to participate in at home, promoting the LOVE of reading!

All children have been given their £1 ‘World Book Day’ tokens. There is a fantastic list of books to choose from this year – more details on these can be found here:  https://www.worldbookday.com/books/

We also celebrated our children’s excellent participation in our ‘Reading for Pleasure’ home-learning week with a book voucher draw during Mr Ireland’s ‘Welcome Back’ Zoom assembly! Children from each of our classes had the opportunity to win a £5 book voucher. Congratulations to our wonderful winners; Sophia, Tommy, Ted, Bea, Max, Aiden and Sedric. Preschool are also carrying out a separate £5 book voucher award for their children!

Once again, we would like to thank our parents and carers for the most magnificent effort, supporting their children during lockdown. We are absolutely delighted to all be back together again and there really is such a positive, joyful atmosphere in school. The sun is currently shining too!

Our wonderful students have really embraced our additional emphasis on ‘Reading for Pleasure.’ We are fully committed to continue our development as a Whole School reading community, supporting children to progress with both their ‘skill’ and ‘will’ as readers. We will of course keep you informed of all upcoming developments.

Thank you so much to all children and parents again and please KEEP READING!
