Exeter Cathedral Chorister Outreach Project

Posted on

Singers from four primary schools within the Dawlish Learning Partnership are thrilled to be invited to join the Exeter Cathedral Chorister Outreach Project and perform at Exeter Cathedral on Saturday 6th June.

The overall aim of the project is to promote the joy of singing amongst children by offering schools specialist teaching input and a high quality performance opportunity. Each school will learn the same four songs to perform as a joint choir and one song chosen by each school to sing as an individual school choir.

Stephen Tanner, Director of Music at Exeter Cathedral School and Associate Musical Director Andrew Downton, will visit the schools for a number of workshops to teach the children the four performance pieces, with the final workshop supported by Choristers from the Cathedral School.

The project is run as a collaboration between Exeter Cathedral and the Devon Music Service. The programme aims to instill and develop the joy of singing among children, by offering

  • Specialist teaching input, continuing support and high-quality performance opportunities.
  • To raise levels of access, achievement and aspiration.
  • To encourage and develop collaborative projects for singing for both pupils and staff.

This is an exciting and unique opportunity for our children and we cannot wait to hear our schools performing together at such a magnificent venue.

Taking part in the DLP Schools Cathedral Concert are Exminster, Starcross and Westcliff Primary School & Gatehouse ACE Academy.

The concert will be held on Saturday 6th June, 4.30 pm at Exeter Cathedral, 1 The Cloisters, Exeter, Devon EX1 1HS – map and travel directions available here
